Philosophy
& Foundation

The roots beneath everything Mildevo does - a personal leadership philosophy shaped by Ubuntu, the Fruit of the Spirit, and a lifelong commitment to authentic, responsible leadership.

Personal Leadership Philosophy

A model built from
lived experience

Six elements, forged through reflection, research and real leadership - forming one interconnected foundation for authentic, responsible leadership.

Values
Personal values are the root of everything - from self-knowledge and authenticity to how Hattingh engages with others and makes decisions. Spirituality, family, empathy, integrity, accountability, respect, wisdom, resilience, trust and courage.
👣
Authenticity
Two dimensions: knowing yourself ("know thyself") and expressing that truth in the world ("be thyself"). Only through authenticity can a leader act with full integrity and build relationships that have real meaning and lasting impact.
💎
Servant Leadership
The traits of servant leadership - listening, empathy, awareness, persuasion, conceptualisation, long-sightedness and community creation - form the internal orientation that makes authentic leadership possible in practice.
🤝
Stakeholder Trust, Equity & Voice
Leadership is relational. When people experience that their voice is heard and their concerns are addressed with genuine care, a culture of trust and collaboration emerges that creates shared, sustainable value.
Virtues of Values-Based Leadership
Three core virtues - Anxiety, Power and Love - form an infinity triangle of high-impact leadership. They flow into and from each other, enabling a leader to hold complexity with wisdom and care.
🌳
Ubuntu
"Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu" - I am because you are; you are because we are. Ubuntu is the overarching philosophy holding all elements together, calling leaders to act authentically, responsibly and ethically for the benefit of all.
Personal Purpose

Leading from
the inside out

The philosophy is not an abstract model. It is the lived reality behind every coaching session, every facilitated experience, every digital build and every song performed.

Hattingh's research at Stellenbosch Business School focused on the contribution of reflective practices to authenticity and responsible leadership - earning the Top Achiever Award for the MBA Blended General Cohort of 2022.

Purpose Statement
"My purpose is to inspire and empower others toward transformation and leadership, enabling people to act with integrity, authenticity, and courage in service of something greater than themselves."
The Mildevo Foundation

Fruit of the Spirit

The nine leaves on the Mildevo logo are not decorative. Each one represents a fruit of the Spirit - the operating system for every coaching session, every song, and every pixel Mildevo creates.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." - Galatians 5:22-23

Love
Galatians 5:22
The foundation beneath everything. Not sentiment - a relentless commitment to the flourishing of others.
Joy
Galatians 5:22
The energy that sustains meaningful work, even in difficulty. A deep gladness that is not dependent on circumstances.
Peace
Galatians 5:22
The quality of presence that creates safe space for others to grow, risk and be honest.
Patience
Galatians 5:22
Growth takes its own time. A refusal to rush what needs space to take root properly.
Kindness
Galatians 5:22
How every person is met - with warmth, generosity and genuine interest in their wellbeing.
Goodness
Galatians 5:22
The standard held in every deliverable, every engagement, every decision made on behalf of a client.
Faithfulness
Galatians 5:22
Showing up - fully and consistently - for every person entrusted to Mildevo's care.
Gentleness
Galatians 5:23
Strength exercised with restraint and sensitivity. Power that protects rather than overwhelms.
Self-Control
Galatians 5:23
Discipline as the gateway to freedom. The capacity to act from values rather than impulse.
"Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu - I am because you are; you are because we are. This is not just a philosophy. It is a way of being in the world."
